Don’t let your hearts be troubled

What is happening,

I hope that the beginning to the summer has you excited about the next few months of warmth, vacations and whatever else you will find yourself doing during the non-school months of the year.   I wanted to just post a thought and let you go on about your day.

Remember the old spiritual from way back? “Nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen. Nobody knows my sorrow…” I was reminded of this song when I read John 14:1. Prior to John 14:1, Jesus has been telling his closest followers the he going to be betrayed, leave them, and die. After all that he says, “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me”. John 14:1
He knows this news is bad, but he shows them the light at the end of the tunnel isn’t an on coming train but it is a great destination. He is going to prepare a place for them. But before that he says to them “trust me”. They have been with Jesus long enough to know whether he is a man of his word or not.

Those words ‘don’t be troubled, trust’ jumped off the page at me today. I felt like I had been handed a plane ticket to some exotic place. The exotic destination is peace (or not being troubled) and the plane headed to that destination is trust. Remember when Jesus is sleeping during a storm and his disciples say, “Wake up, don’t you care that we are going to die? Later, Jesus speaks and the storm ceases and he says to his sailing buddies.’ Why are you so freaked out? You don’t trust much.’ (your bible may read -Why are you so afraid? O, ye o little faith). The key to being peaceful enough to sleep in the storm is trust.

Trust wipes away the illusion that circumstances are bigger than God. Now Boarding all passengers on Flight# Trust to Peace. The plane is preparing for departure.
